Basque Country | I Love Mutriku
Mutriku is located on the west coast of Gipuzkoa. The town’s uneven relief is due to its location on the slope of Arno Mountain (628m). Mutriku was the birthplace of eminent sailors Antonio Gaztañeta and Cosme Damián Churruca. Founded at the beginning of the 13th century, its medieval design and ancient wall remains are untouched. The Old Town of Mutriku is crisscrossed by narrow paved streets, where we can admire numerous palaces, towerhouses and ancient houses with wonderful coats of arms. The Galdona Palace, for instance, has an ashlar facade dating back to the 17th century, and the parish church of Nuestra Señora de la Asunción is one of the most emblematic buildings of the area since the sanctuary is Gipuzkoa’s most representative sample of Neoclassical architecture.
